The Chinese government’s crackdown on workers, labor activities and leftist students in recent weeks is deeply troubling. It comes into sharp contrast with how the Chinese government has been using Marxism as the main tool of ideological legitimation. To continue to participate in China’s World Congress of Marxism and other officially sponsored Marxism-related events means we would stay complicit in the Chinese government’s game.
